Escape from butcher bay.?

im at the part where you can duel all sorts of challengers in double or triple max im not sure. since there is 2 ways of killing abbot-either doing all the fights or getting caught with drugs- and you get to go back to the courtyards after you kill him, is it possible to get caught with drugs, kill abbot and then do the duels or do they get locked after he dies.
