I need direct x 9.0?

my computer crashed 1 yr. ago . when i had it repaired the guy put win xp back on my computer, but now when i try to get updates msn ask for genuine validation and it say it's not can someone e-mail it to me ? if not what can i do .,the guy no longer lives here in town. please help ....
